Signing up

Create an account with email

No real phone number is required. Blah assigns you a virtual Blah Number beginning with +999; your email address carries your sign-in codes.

In a browser

  1. Open the Blah control panel’s sign-in page and enter an email address you have not used for Blah.
  2. Enter the emailed verification code and choose your display name.
  3. Continue into the control panel, then open a messenger below and sign in with the same email address.

You can also create an account while using Sign in with Blah on another application. After verifying your email and choosing a name, review that application’s permissions in the browser before continuing. Creating the account does not sign a messenger in for you.

An email address already registered to Blah signs in to the existing account instead: approve the request in the @blah conversation on a signed-in device. Without one, sign in to a messenger with your email code first. A Blah Number on these web forms is for existing accounts only; use email to create one.

In a messenger

Open an app below and enter your email where it asks for a phone number or email. Verify the emailed code and choose a name. There is no authenticator setup on this path. The Blah Number assigned to you is available in your profile.

Choose your own Blah Number

Use a messenger, not the control panel’s web form, to choose an available +999 number. The default supported length is 6–16 digits after +999.

  1. Enter the number, then add and verify your email when asked.
  2. On the Fragment code screen, choose Open Fragment. For a new number, this opens an authenticator or password manager to save a time-based code (TOTP).
  3. Save that setup, enter its current code and finish creating your profile.

The Fragment wording is the client’s label for Blah’s authenticator setup, not a purchase. If it opens a help webpage rather than authenticator setup, the number is already registered; choose another number to create a new account.

Sign in again or add a device

Enter either your email or Blah Number in a messenger. Once your account has a verified login email, both use a code sent to that address rather than your saved TOTP.

Alternatively, choose Log in by QR code on the new device and scan it with a device already signed in to Blah. Approve the login there. A Two-Step Verification password is still required if you have enabled one.

Older accounts and recovery

Older accounts without a login email: the next sign-in asks you to verify an email and then prove your existing TOTP. Later sign-ins use email codes. You can also add or change the login email from a signed-in app. Accounts hosted on a server without email delivery keep using TOTP; email and browser sign-up are unavailable there.

Missing or expired code: check the address and request a new code when offered. Mail failures are reported; repeated attempts can be rate-limited.

Forgotten Two-Step Verification password: use the recovery-email code to set a new password or turn it off. The recovery email is configured separately from your login email. Without one, request a delayed reset; other signed-in devices can cancel it, and @blah notifies you when the wait ends.
